  • Eligible applicants are accepted on a space-available basis and receive an Acceptance Acknowledgement Letter through their Lakeland email account.
  • To reserve a seat in the program, accepted applicants must submit the non-refundable $55 application fee by the deadline provided in the Acceptance Acknowledgement Letter.

Phase II – Program Progression

  • Acceptance into the Medical Assisting Program allows students to enroll in MDAS1110 – Administrative Medical Office Procedures, the program's introductory (trigger) course.
  • Successful completion of MDAS1110 is required before students may progress into the Clinical Medical Assisting curriculum which begins in semester two of the program.

Technical Standards & Occupational Risks

Students considering the Medical Assisting Program should review the Technical Standards and Occupational Risks associated with participation in the program and the medical assisting profession. These include the cognitive, sensory, affective, and psychomotor abilities necessary to safely perform program and practicum requirements, as well as potential occupational risks encountered in healthcare settings.

Practicum & Onboarding Requirements

The Medical Assisting Program includes a required 160-hour practicum at an affiliated healthcare facility. Practicum placements are coordinated and assigned by the program based on site availability, program requirements, and student eligibility. Specific placement requests cannot be guaranteed.

Prior to practicum, students must complete required onboarding requirements, including health requirements, a criminal background check, and drug screening. Individual practicum sites may have additional requirements. Failure to meet required onboarding or site requirements may delay or prevent practicum placement.

Background Check: A criminal record does not automatically prevent practicum placement, certification, or employment; however, eligibility requirements vary by practicum site, credentialing organization, and employer. Students with concerns regarding their background check are encouraged to contact the Medical Assisting Program Director as early as possible.
